Colorado College Packard Hall

Packard Hall, in the heart of the Colorado College campus, is home to this distinguished institution’s art and music departments and contains one of the finest small concert venues in the region.

Originally designed in the early 1970s by the noted modernist architect Edward Larrabee Barnes, it had remained largely unchanged since it was constructed. To meet the needs of the growing departments, an 11,000-square-foot addition was built, along with general renovation throughout the existing 56,000-square-foot building.

The two-story addition houses seven office/studios and three music classrooms, one of which serves as a rehearsal studio. Additionally, a climate-controlled storage room for instruments used in the ethno-musicology program and various support spaces were constructed. A new lift provides accessibility for the disabled to the stage level and green room in the concert hall.

The renovation also provided new space for the art department, including a slide-research library and reading room/lounge. A new general office, shared with the music department, was created as well as more art-faculty offices. A new elevator was inserted into the existing four-story art tower for disabled-accessibility and movement of artwork and supplies.
